This is the most popular species of barberry cultivated in Poland. It originates from Japan. A deciduous, thorny, dome-shaped shrub that grows up to 1–2 meters in height. The leaves fall in winter. It tolerates periodic droughts and temperature drops. Grows well in sunny or partially shaded locations. Prefers acidic or moderately alkaline soil.

Use: Perfect for hedges, rows, or rock gardens. It can be planted individually or in small groups.
Flowering: In May, yellow flowers appear. Its branches are arched, and the leaves are small and red. In autumn, the foliage turns various shades from red through orange to yellow. Between August and September, decorative green, elliptical fruits appear, which turn bright red in autumn. They often remain on the shrub throughout winter.
Care: Prefers sunny or slightly shaded positions. In the shade, the leaves are less intensely colored. Soil should be acidic to moderately alkaline.
Pruning: Does not require pruning, but tolerates trimming.
