One of the most popular barberry species cultivated in Poland. It originates from Japan. A deciduous, thorny, highly attractive dome-shaped shrub that grows up to 0.8 m in height. Plant spacing up to 1 m. Leaves fall in winter. It tolerates occasional drought and temperature drops. Prefers warm or semi-shaded positions. Soil should be acidic to moderately alkaline.
Thunberg's Barberry 'Dart's Red Lady' is one of the most popular barberry varieties cultivated in Poland. It originates from Japan. A deciduous, thorny, and highly attractive dome-shaped shrub that grows up to 0.8 m in height. Plant spacing up to 1 m. Leaves fall for the winter. It withstands periodic drought and temperature drops.
Use: Perfect for hedges, rows, or rock gardens. Can be planted individually or in small groups. For hedging, plant 3 to 4 plants per linear meter.
Flowering: In May, small yellow flowers appear. Its branches are arching, the leaves are small, slightly glossy, dark purple, and greenish inside the shrub. In autumn, they turn bright red. Between August and September, decorative green, elliptical fruits appear, which turn bright red in autumn (especially in sunny locations). They often remain on the shrub throughout winter.
Care: Prefers sunny or slightly shaded positions. In shade, the leaves are less intensely colored. Soil should be acidic to moderately alkaline.
Pruning: Does not require pruning but tolerates trimming.
