The white agapanthus is a perennial plant from the lily family. It is also called the African lily. It is characterized by long, green, narrow leaves. The flowers, borne on a stiff stalk, form an umbel composed of several blue blossoms. The plant requires clay, fertile and well-drained soil with the addition of sand. It should be watered abundantly during the growing season. In countries with a warmer climate, it is cultivated in the ground. It does not tolerate frost and is not sufficiently frost-resistant, therefore in our climate it is grown in containers. During winter, the plant should be kept indoors with access to light, where the temperature ranges from 1–8 °C. Watering should be limited during this period. When planting in pots, rhizomes should be covered with a thin layer of soil. It blooms from July to September. It requires a sunny position, sheltered from strong and cold winds. Agapanthus should be watered regularly with fertilizers, preferably for flowering plants. These are available in all garden stores. They look beautiful on balconies and terraces. Agapanthus are perfect as cut flowers for vases.
